Explosion Proof (EP) motor enclosures do not
allow fire inside the motor to escape. Also
referred to as hazardous environments, these
motors are specified by class, group and
division based on the flammability and
combustion characteristics in the environment -
example grain dust or explosive vapors.
Explosion proof does not mean they can not catch
on fire. It means the fire is contained inside
the motor.
